Paramore at Hammerstein Ballroom

October 24, 2009

October 21- Franklin, Tennessee’s own Paramore recently performed to a sold-out crowd in Midtown’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Playing an absolutely stunning set, Paramore quickly solidified that they are much more than a popular single or two, and are absolute powerhouses live.

Paramore’s live show is something that deserves to be seen. The band, consisting of vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarists Josh Farro and Taylor York, drummer Zac Farro and bassist Jeremy Davis, work well with each other, and together their performance is outstanding.

Williams is a little ball of energy on stage. When she’s not singing into her mic stand, she’s running the length of the stage, constantly jumping and pointing out members of the crowd. All the while doing this physical activity, she delivers top-notch vocals that very few can rival. What makes this surprising is that a few days into the tour, Williams started suffering from a case of laryngitis, which forced the band to reschedule a handful of dates. It was impossible to tell that Williams suffered from such an infection, as her voice was impressive, to say the least.

Playing several songs off their new album, brand new eyes, as well as older songs such as “Conspiracy” and “Here We Go Again”, Paramore played a very balanced set that got all the fans pumped up. Hit singles “Emergency,” “That’s What You Get,” “crushcrushcrush,” “Misery Business,” and most recent single “Ignorance” were all performed. Noticeably missing was All We Know Is Falling’s My Heart, which seemed to be a staple of any Paramore live set. The song was missed, but including “Conspiracy” in the set was a great substitute. Each song was performed with extreme precision and skill, yet certain songs, like  ”Turn It Off” and “Careful,” seemed to “stick out from the pack”; these songs were definitely some of the best of the night. Closing off the night with Brick By Boring Brick, the next single off of BNE, the night ended with the energy and the excitement of the crowd high.

I have seen Paramore live a total of five times, and I have never been disappointed with their performance— saying they put on a great live show is a serious understatement, and any concert-goer should treat themselves to the joy that is a Paramore concert.
